Jayden Daniels is a bright spot in an otherwise poor draft, at least so far, but nobody is talking about it. I understand the honeymoon phase, but it’s gotten to be a bit too much. Local sports media and fans spend half their time criticizing the old GM, and the other half praising the new one, but we’ve always felt that situation was a little more nuanced. One of the local media and fans favorite critiques is pointing out that Ron Rivera selected Emmanual Forbes Jr. over Christian Gonzales, at WFT we’re still hopeful that Forbes can put together a great season and career, but so far he’s been unable to do so in a secondary and defense that has struggled mightily.
We wanted to be fair about it though and point out that Adam Peters cornerback selection this year hasn’t exactly blown the doors off the league either. We like Mike Sainristil, just like we like all our players past and present, and we will root for them wherever they go and whatever they do. However for the sake of pointing out that drafting players is hard, we’re going to point out some players drafted after Sainristil that are currently outperforming him.
Mike Sainristil has a current overall PFF grade of 60.0 and is ranked 109th out of 185 CBs. He was selected with the 50th pick in the NFL draft.
Andru Phillips has a current overall PFF grade of 80.6 and is ranked 10th out of 185 CBs. He was selected with the 70th pick in the NFL draft.
Dru Phillips is going to be an absolutely stud at the nickel position in this league.
Renardo Green has a current overall PFF grade of 67.7 and is ranked 55th out of 185 CBs. He was selected with the 64th pick in the NFL draft.
Renardo Green is a Game Changer for the 49ers’ Defense
Tykee Smith has a current overall PFF grade of 76.1 and is ranked 17th out of 185 CBs. He was selected with the 89th pick in the NFL draft.
Studs and duds from the Bucs’ Week 6 win over the New Orleans Saints
I included media links to avoid the usual PFF isn’t accurate criticism when it paints a picture people don’t like.
